Clavulin 625 mg is a combination antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.

Clavulin 625 mg is a combination antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. It contains two active ingredients: Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid.

Composition:

  • Amoxicillin (500 mg): A penicillin-type antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body.
  • Clavulanic Acid (125 mg): A beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents certain bacteria from becoming resistant to amoxicillin.

Mechanism of Action:

  • Amoxicillin works by interfering with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, which eventually leads to the death of the bacteria.
  • Clavulanic Acid works by inhibiting beta-lactamase enzymes produced by bacteria that can inactivate amoxicillin. This allows amoxicillin to effectively kill the bacteria.

Indications:

Clavulin 625 mg is prescribed to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections (e.g., bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis).
  • Ear infections (e.g., otitis media).
  • Skin and soft tissue infections.
  • Urinary tract infections.
  • Bone and joint infections.
  • Dental infections.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Adults: Typically, one Clavulin 625 mg tablet is taken every 8 or 12 hours, depending on the severity and type of infection.
  • The tablet should be swallowed whole and taken with a meal to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • It is important to complete the full course of the antibiotic, even if symptoms improve, to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance.
