Ampicillin Capsules BP 250 mg are an antibiotic medication used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.

Ampicillin Capsules BP 250 mg are a type of antibiotic medicine that helps fight infections caused by bacteria. Each capsule contains 250 mg of ampicillin, which is part of the penicillin family of antibiotics.

What Do They Look Like?

These capsules are small and easy to swallow. They usually have a hard outer shell and may be colored, often white combined with another color like blue or red. The inside of the capsule contains a white to off-white powder.

What Are They Used For?

Ampicillin is used to treat a range of bacterial infections, including:

  • Respiratory infections (like bronchitis and pneumonia)
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Gastrointestinal infections (like typhoid fever)
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Some types of meningitis and blood infections

How Do They Work?

Ampicillin works by killing the bacteria causing the infection. It does this by stopping the bacteria from building their cell walls, which they need to survive.

How Should You Take Them?

  • Take the capsules with a full glass of water.
  • Its best to take them on an empty stomach, about 30 minutes before or 2 hours after eating.
  • Follow your doctors instructions on how many capsules to take and how often. This is usually four times a day, but it depends on your specific infection.

What Are the Possible Side Effects?

Like all medicines, ampicillin can cause side effects. Common ones include:

  • Upset stomach or diarrhea
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Skin rash

If you experience a rash, severe diarrhea, or signs of an allergic reaction (like swelling or difficulty breathing), contact your doctor immediately.

Who Shouldnt Take Ampicillin?

Do not take ampicillin if you are allergic to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics. Inform your doctor about any allergies or medical conditions you have before starting the medication.

Storage Instructions:

  • Store the capsules in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Keep them out of the reach of children.

Why Is It Important to Take the Full Course?

Even if you start to feel better, its important to finish all the capsules your doctor prescribed. Stopping early can allow the bacteria to survive and cause the infection to come back.
