Bactoclav 375 mg is an antibiotic medication that combines two active ingredients: Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid.

Bactoclav 375 mg is an antibiotic medication that combines two active ingredients: Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid. This combination is effective against a wide range of bacterial infections.

Composition:

  • Amoxicillin (250 mg): A penicillin-type antibiotic that fights bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis.
  • Clavulanic Acid (125 mg): A beta-lactamase inhibitor that helps prevent certain bacteria from becoming resistant to amoxicillin by inhibiting the enzyme that breaks down the antibiotic.

Mechanism of Action:

  • Amoxicillin works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to bacterial lysis and death.
  • Clavulanic Acid binds to and inactivates beta-lactamase enzymes produced by some bacteria, which would otherwise degrade amoxicillin and render it ineffective. The combination allows the antibiotic to work against bacteria that might otherwise be resistant.

Indications:

Bactoclav 375 mg is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections (e.g., sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia).
  • Ear infections (otitis media).
  • Skin and soft tissue infections.
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs).
  • Bone and joint infections.
  • Dental infections.

Dosage and Administration:

  • The typical adult dose is one Bactoclav 375 mg tablet taken every 8 hours (three times a day). However, the dosage and duration of treatment depend on the severity and type of infection.
  • Tablets should be taken with food to enhance absorption and reduce the risk of gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • It is important to complete the entire prescribed course, even if symptoms improve before finishing the medication.
